For many years, Theatre Albany maintained a thriving youth theatre program, performing multiple shows a season geared specifically toward both young actors and young audiences. Many of these took place in our upstairs black box theatre, but were put on hold when the performance space fell into disrepair.
Thankfully, we are now working steadily to rebuild our youth program, beginning with the recurring Rising Stars production each season. This summer, our second annual Rising Stars week-long camp welcomed 46 young thespians as they “Rocked Around the 50's.” Our main stage even serves as home stage to the Deerfield-Windsor one act play cast and crew as they prepare for competition, but there is more we can do to inspire a love of theatrical arts in our youth.
In addition to our youth program, we also aspire to be able to explore smaller, more intimate shows, plays for young audiences, experimental seating and staging options, more dinner shows, opportunities for local writers to workshop their own pieces, classes for makeup, dance, acting, and more. The possibilities are endless!
With your help, we can breathe new life into this beloved space, preserving it for another generation of actors, and bring even more theatre arts to Southwest Georgia!
